About
About Hidayah Steps
Hidayah Steps is a free companion for people who are new to Islam, or coming back to it: learning to pray, reciting the Quran, and remembering Allah through the day, one small step at a time.
Who it is for
Most people who embrace Islam start alone, often without Arabic and without a teacher nearby. They ask the same questions: where do I start, how do I pray tonight, how do I know I am reciting correctly? Hidayah Steps answers those questions in order, at the pace of one person's day.
What it offers
- First steps: the Shahada, what Muslims believe, the five pillars, wudu and how to pray.
- The whole Quran in Arabic, with transliteration and translation, read by the reciter you choose.
- Daily Practice: a few verses a day, with feedback on your recitation.
- Duas for every day and the 99 Names of Allah.
- Short lessons on faith, prayer, character and daily life.
- Prayer times for your city and the direction of the qibla.
How the content is made
Religious content comes from recognised sources, never from an AI's own knowledge:
- Quran: the Arabic text of the King Fahd Complex (Hafs), with the Saheeh International translation.
- Verse explanations: summarised strictly from Tafsir Ibn Kathir (abridged), with the original text one tap away.
- Hadith: from Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, or from other collections only where every listed scholar graded the hadith sahih or hasan.
- Duas: each one is shown with the hadith it comes from. Duas whose source could not be confirmed were left out.
- Lessons: drafted with the help of AI from the sources above only. Every point is checked against its source, and a person reviews each lesson before it is published.
The recitation check uses Google's Gemini to compare what you recited with the verse. It is a practice partner for the days between lessons, not a teacher. If you can, learn with a qualified teacher.
Who makes it
Hidayah Steps is an independent project by the Hidayah Steps team, made for people taking their first steps in Islam.
How it is paid for
Learning on Hidayah Steps is free. The AI recitation check costs money to run, so an optional supporter plan helps pay for it, and gifts through the app plant trees with Greenspark. The site may show a small number of ads on reading pages, never on the Quran, in practice or in the prayer steps.
